Edition 2012

Spain, our guest country for the Monterrey IFF in 2012 was particularly special because of its cultural and historical proximity to Mexico.

From August 16 thru 26, 22,022 attendees were present at the Festival’s several venues to enjoy 195 films from 41 different countries, which were selected amongst 2,106 films that arrived at the Festival’s headquarters from 113 countries around the world.

Spain was also present at the Festival’s Inauguration Gala with the film “Frozen Silence”, a war drama from Spanish director Gerardo Herrero, who received the Cabrito de Plata as a Career Achievement Tribute. Also from Spain, the distinguished actress Marisa Paredes was awarded with the Cabrito de Plata for her outstanding contribution to the international cinema. Mexico’s talent could not be overlooked by the Monterrey IFF. This year the acclaimed Mexican director Luis Estrada was honored with the Cabrito de Plata, and fellow actor Emilio Echevarría was awarded the Cabrito de Cristal as an Icon of Mexican Cinema.

During the activities organized for the 2nd International Animation Encounter, approximately 20 international animators gathered at the Cineteca Nuevo León where they spoke to an audience of almost 1,000 attendees on the different stages of the complex and fulfilling process of transferring an idea onto the screen.

The attendees of the 5th Film Industry Day had the opportunity of listening and learning from experienced film producers such as Jorge Sánchez Sosa, Thierry Potok and Walter Navas, among others.

This year the jury was formed by Adriana Barraza, Eduardo Lucatero and Walter Navas in the feature films category; Miguel Ángel Pérez Quintero (Ibértigo – Las Palmas), Orlando Mora (Cartagena Film Festival) and Wieland Speck (Berlin Film Festival) for Mexican feature films category; and Brad Horvath (OUAT Media Canada), Cristine Dávila (Sundance Film Festival programming associate) and Miwako Kikuchi (Short Shorts Asia) for the short films category.
