Edition 2007

A great display of talent and glamour characterized the 3 Monterrey International Film Festival, held from August 11th to the 18th of 2007.

1350 films were submitted for competition from 81 different countries, from which 14 feature films and 46 short films were screened in competition in Monterrey. The Opening Film screening was elegantly attired for the continental premiere of The Black Pimpernel (Switzerland – Mexico – Denmark, 2007), a Monterrey based co-production directed by Ulf Hultberg. Present at the screening were Kate del Castillo, Lumi Cavazos, the director of the film, Monterrey producer Raquel Guajardo, and the rest of the international and Mexican cast.

China, as the Guest Country of this edition of the Festival, screened a showcase of the contemporary cinema of said nation, as well as a retrospective from the Beijing Film Academy. A delegation of the Academy accompanied the screenings and the world renowned filmmaker Tian Zhuangzhuang, was awarded with the Cabrito de Plata for his outstanding achievements in cinema in a homage organized by the Festival. Also, the Festival awarded the Brothers Bruno, Demián and Odiseo Bichir, for their outstanding achievements on Mexican cinema and television. A tribute was also made to the loving memory of Ismael Rodríguez and Pedro Infante, a retrospective was organized to conmmemorate the 50th anniversary of Pedro Infante’s passing.

Among the celebrities that atended the Festival, were Aarón Diaz, Pedro Armendáriz Jr., Judy Reyes, Joselo from Café Tacvba, the french producer and special effects supervisor Antoine Simkine, and a large number of Mexican and International directors whose films were in competition.

The Jury was conformed by Gustavo García, film critic, Ivan Giroud, director of the Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano in Havana, Cuba, Genaro Saúl Reyes, critic and mexican cinema specialist, Jesús Torres, filmmaker and professor at the ITESM, and Local filmmaker René Villarreal.
